Discussion and opinion

  • This would be far more watchable if the people weren't so full of themselves. A nice house design is still just a little house, its not a cure for cancer. Take a step back and deflate your ego a bit. You can just imagine the homeowners farting into a wine glass, swirling it around, and inhaling it deeply with tremendous satisfaction. - DumbDuck44
  • it kinda looks like a double wide - jed black
  • it is their second home so i guess their main home is at least 5000 sq ft give us a break - Don Thatcher
  • It looks like an expensive toy for wealthy hippies to ease their self imposed sense of guilt. - Idgarad Lyracant
  • why does 800 sq ft have to be secondary? This country needs a serious paradigm shift in what is considered livable space. Safety is key, but opinionated mainstream ethos should not dictate en mas. Not allowing smaller dwellings on lots is literally unAmerican. - Carlos Khali
  • now we need to live in an appropriate manner? from the same bunch that gave us low flow toilets and plastic shopping bags - no thanks - and by the way the roof design on one side is useless and faulty and IMHO ugly - jmarylastone
  • I love the exterior design, being modern contemporary. But I do not like the inside being like an old fashion house. I would prefer less windows and also made of mostly brick. - Patrick Saxon
  • Lovely home. Enjoyed the video. Just not into the heavy judgment and smug superiority behind the expression, "living appropriately." Cant we do a good thing without crapping on everyone else? - FrJcsc
  • so this house should win an ugly award already. looks like a sow with its tail in the air . i mean who displays structure in this way ?????????????????????? - mrartwatcher
  • It is a lovely house, and a secondary dwelling... Imagine being able to own 2 houses when so many lost their only residence and others can only dream of buying a house. I agree with the concept of the "smaller" house but do we need more than 1? - Gordon Warlow
  • I really Like the exterior design. Thanks for sharing. - Pat Perrino Custom Home Builders
  • I loved this home. I'm looking on building in the next year or two and the lot prices in my area have become very steep at about 200k. I'm looking on finding a piece of land outside the city at a price more affordable to me and building a small but very functional home. My children will be moved out so it will be just me, my GF and the two cats. At one time my province was renown for its architecture but now it is all cookie cutter homes. Seeing this house shows me that one can build a smaller home that is unique and functional. Where can I find more options anyone know? - Mark Baker
  • Very cool design, I'm just not a big fan of the color scheme. - George's Automotive Repair
  • Very nice floor plan, spacious but cozy. I wish you would have shown more of the interior. - Karen R
  • Living appropriately... Hmmm. - Jan Coldwater
  • loved the home and all the positive comments. - Gordon Eddington
  • Love the house! Surprised at the angst expressed by some folks about the phrase "appropriate manner", yet I took it as simply meaning that this house is one where the space is all used, with little excess space. So, not having 3,4,5,6...spare bedrooms, multiple living rooms, etc, etc that don't get used. In that context, I think this is a valid statement, although I understand that it can cause some folks who have thinner skins to feel it is self-righteous. (But let's face it, those of us whom are thinking of, or already living in a smaller, simpler, home may be considered guilty of our own "pretentiousness" as we feel others are wrong for their extravagance. :) - Barry Timm
  • The house colours are gorgeous, the attitude a tad precious though. The oddness of making a statement about these people 'living appropriately' had me choke on my own scorn, lol. - mayanchild
  • The functionality of this home looks simple and ideal. Yet the aesthetics and design -- the art of the home -- looks sub-par and not award winning? Am I the only one with this thought? I've seen wonderful small homes, "tiny homes," with beautiful art and aesthetic to their design. This is not among the best... even the colours are just yuk! It seems the award for this house is a bit of "The Emperor's New Clothes? Yes, it might be a house design with great functionality... but there is no art to it. - John Harrigan
  • Great! I want it too <3 - pelo akhvlediani
  • I love the look! I love the feel of a small home, It’s hard to explain but it makes you feel cozy and warm! It brings back memories of being a child and hiding under a table draped by a blanket, you feel secure and safe! - DoubleTap
  • 800 Sq ft is *not* tiny. Please!! - Teresa Boze
  • Artsy people. Yes the lady looks like a "mature" hippie. I am not fond of shed roofs and think the house is ugly. - peggyt1243
  • Array - Marguerite Couteau
  • No not Home Depot - Nir Depot - Spanky Spankinheim
  • This is one very well designed small house that sets a new bar for country modern housing. Really nice - Norman Shuzen
  • What a great little house! It has nice amenities and a great design. I love the outdoor spaces it offers. - Mike M
  • I gotta admit that I'm a bit confused by the comment from the designer (who is WONDERFUL, by the way!) about this couple living "in an appropriate manner." This IS NOT "simple" living by any means! All the appliances seen here are EXPENSIVE, stainless steel, top of the line as seen in any large, modern home. All the surfaces seen here are EXPENSIVE and NATURAL, again as one would see in any large, modern, expensive home. Ditto for all the cabinets. All the furniture too looks to be expensive, custom made. This couple ARE NOT "roughing it" by any means. This IS a LUXURY home, only scaled down a bit! - Babyhowdy233
  • O - Osman Smajlovic
  • I turn back to this feature, time and time again. My hats off to Nils Pearson. I would (build it) if I could. - Maria Arceneaux
  • Beautiful design!!! - yoshisaba
  • In MY opinion (that's all it is....) This home does many things well and shows the crossing of architecture from mere construction craft to ART. Colors, spaces, natural light, the wood stove, size, roof line, the deck, the trim, the interior height, the exposed beams......Winner. Perhaps this time the BEST man won in fact. Bravo to you Mr. architect extraordinaire . Bravo! And good on your for giving an assist to the buyer via your intro. She brought out the best in you. - roadmasterrod
  • Nice house and all that but too much airy-fairy stuff and not enough details. What size is it? This is relevant to 'small' home design. What's the floor plan? How many rooms? Where's the hot water cylinder? Where does the hoover get stashed? All these things are what I need to know for small house design. And I really don't like the butterfly roof. Source of problems. - mark carey
  • wait - his name is Nir? Nir? Is that muslim? - Spanky Spankinheim
  • My home is 1860 sq.ft. It is a 2-story traditional 3bd/2ba home with a 2-car attached. When I bought it, it was basically a shell...improved it to my likeness over the years and decorated it in a way to radiate warmth and to give a pure feeling of coziness. It is my sanctuary. We are three people and two dogs and if I had to live in a smaller home, we all could manage that I am sure. My yearly costs for property taxes, electricity, Internet, gas and heat are roughly $4500. So If we were to live in a small home in a similar situation, that would cost us about 1/3 of what we are paying now. I have thought about a solar system to go off grid, but that would run me $20K...not worth it as of now...only if I lived in a smaller home. Tiny homes are cool...love them all day long...maybe I will build one and rent it out. - FritzelFritz11
  • What a gorgeous home. - Mark Rosengarten
  • These small homes are great if you already OWN land to put one on. McMansions suck, you know a house built on a lot that is too small for it, in my area the newly wealthy are buying standard size lots and taking up every inch of land with house. - sa65cn1
  • Beautiful home, also love the landscaping! If I decide too go for a smaller house, it would be silmar to this one .And I've seen plenty of these tiny homes, but this is one of the best & seems to have a warm @ home feel!!! - Annette McILwain
  • This house is beautiful, I love the interior! - Kaylah Turner
  • do any of these people speak english, I mean their so pretentious its staggering - Anthony Clay
  • I really like the inside, which is very nice and comfortable looking, but the outside is...well, an acquired taste perhaps. Though, the back deck's roof, it doesn't require a builder to see how this is just wrong on so many levels. Nice insides though. Very homey. - ERaceH8
  • That house is hideous - Julian Romo
  • ~ Awesome ~ - bezbudd
  • Array - Arthit Jitpon
  • Love the house I like smaller homes. I have built some white elephants and also rebuilt some really scary money pits.... I now design mostly movable homes where the floor comes up to be a table and walls are doors and ceiling move off for windows and dresser are turned into stairs. I have decided I like built in furniture inside the walls no free standing furniture and also a sunken living well that seats a lot of people and pulls out to sleep about 6 people not counting anyone who sleeps in the middle part faces a fire place with a tv on top behind the mirror. But small should become the new gold standard with conscious thought and planning pays off in the end. Thanks for the video.. Grace - Grace Serena Christie
